SONG SPOTLIGHT: Turn Up!

Published on May 8, 2019

“You can turn up with the whip
You can turn up with the nae nae
Let me see your footwork
Turn up, turn up!”

-from “Turn up!”
created by students from Henry H. Houston Elementary School

**FLASHBACK!** Back in 2016 LiveConnections created our first album, A DAY IN MY LIFE, in collaboration with Henry H. Houston Elementary School in Philly.

Through poetry and songwriting, students had a chance to share stories of their families, images of their current neighborhoods, concerns about violence in our city, and questions for their future selves.

“Turn Up!” is a high-energy song from the album, featuring a catchy beat, student-created lyrics, and the entire student body of Houston School dancing along.

4 years and 4 albums later, we’re still empowering young people to tell their own stories — and celebrate their lives — through song.
