FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: This December, join LiveConnections for a program that celebrates the power of women and girls in our community. Philadelphia-based jazz vocalist Joanna Pascale and the Sister Cities Girlchoir join together for a empowering, woman-centered jazz/choral extravaganza you don’t want to miss on Sunday, December 9 at 3PM. Tickets to the LiveConnections concert at World Cafe Live are currently on sale.

The LiveConnections concert will feature the world premiere of a new choral arrangement based on Pascale’s critically acclaimed show “Language of Flowers,” with unique collaborations between Pascale and the youth of the Girlchoir. The piece draws on Pascale’s 2017 “Floriography” project, originally developed during her jazz residency with the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, based on the Victorian-era custom of sending elaborate messages through floral arrangements. In addition, the show will feature works by female composers and lyricists from the Great American Songbook. Pascale will be joined by the 3DIVAS, who are members of the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, a 15-piece jazz ensemble comprised entirely of women.

A singer of sophisticated taste, profound expressiveness, and raw emotion, Pascale is also a gifted educator who has been a member of the vocal faculty at both Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. She’s been featured on recordings by Jeremy Pelt, Tim Warfield, Orrin Evans, Larry McKenna, the Temple University Jazz Band, and Garry Dial and Dick Oatts. Pascale made her recording debut with 2004’s When Lights Are Low, followed by the 2008 CD Through My Eyes and a 2010 duo recording with pianist Anthony Wonsey. With the 2015 release of Wildflower, she revealed her most personal and diverse collection to date. She received a 2016-2017 jazz residency with the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts.

Sister Cities Girlchoir (SCG) empowers girls by building resilience, leadership, mastery and connection through a comprehensive choral training academy that invests in the unique potential of adolescent girls to enhance their communities. The program is research-based, and although a music program is an uncommon girl empowerment tool, SCG is modeled on the powerful impact that investments in the lives of girls make for the world. SCG is modeled after El Sistema, Venezuela’s monumental music education program that is transforming lives and communities.

The concert is part of LiveConnections’ 10th Anniversary season. The innovative music nonprofit has curated a series of educational and concert programming focused on intersections between music and social change.

ABOUT LIVECONNECTIONS: LiveConnections is a nonprofit organization specializing in music education, arts accessibility and collaborative concerts. LiveConnections’ work has been widely hailed, recently receiving an NBCUniversal “Project Innovation” grant, a Cultural Access Award by leading arts accessibility organization Art-Reach, a Social Innovations Award, a Barra Award, and a special resolution by Philadelphia City Council.
